Get ready to immerse yourself in the rugged beauty of the West MacDonnell Ranges.
Located on the traditional lands of the Arrernte people in the Red Centre, you’ll be trekking sections of the iconic Larapinta Trail, one of the most popular and remote walks in Australia. Known for its breathtaking landscape and mountainous terrain, the trail’s rocky outcrops form a striking backdrop to scenic paths that cut passages through awe-inspiring gorges and expansive plains. A National Geographic favourite, this world-renowned trek is a must on any hiking enthusiast's bucket list.
To ensure that you have the full Larapinta Trail experience, we have chosen walks along the best sections of the trail. Focusing on a truly authentic experience that will never be the same twice, you will find yourself challenged yet satisfied with a rewarding climb up to the top of Rwetyepme (Mount Sonder). At 1380m, it is the fourth highest mountain in the Northern Territory.
Once at the summit, you will be rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, plains, valleys and salt lakes. After trekking each day, retreat to a bush camp and spend your evenings sitting around a campfire with like-minded adventurers, before retiring to an authentic swag under the star-filled sky.
Most significantly, by participating in the Larapinta Trek for Change, you’ll be raising funds for indigo foundation which will enable our grassroots partners in Bougainville, India and Rwanda to support women and children to be strong, safe and independent, through addressing issues of family violence, domestic workers rights, sexual health and gender justice.
A truly soulful experience, you will be reminiscing on this once-in-a-lifetime trip for decades to come.
indigo foundation supports grassroots community organisations to empower women and girls, improve education and health outcomes and secure better livelihoods for families.
indigo foundation works with some of the most marginalised communities in the world, investing in projects that may not otherwise make it into existence. Currently we have community partners in South Sudan, Afghanistan, India, Indonesia, Bougainville, Rwanda and Namibia.
Over the last 20 years, our evidence shows that community-led development transforms lives and builds more resilient communities. Quite simply, community-led development is the foundation for sustainable change.
Our approach to partnership is built on respect, mutual learning and accepting that progress and setbacks are a normal part of community development.
We are a proudly nimble and creative organisation with committed volunteers and supporters who value our distinctive approach to community partnerships and development.
On the Larapinta Trek for Change you will have the exciting opportunity to participate in a physically challenging trek in our own beautiful backyard, while fundraising to protect and defend the rights of women and girls.
Funds raised through indigo foundation’s Larapinta Trek for Change will aid our community partners in Bougainville, India and Rwanda develop and deliver programs focused on the rights and livelihoods of women and girls. This is more important than ever in the face of Covid-19 where many people in our partner communities lost their livelihoods overnight, with women and girls bearing the brunt. Government restrictions made it harder for women to work, to access health care and to seek protection from family violence. Without access to the kind of government support available in Australia, local partners are stepping up with innovative and powerful programs.
Your support will fund vital programs including a safe house in Bougainville, free health clinics and a Domestic Workers Union in India and sexual health clinic offering education, testing and counselling. While different in their delivery, each partner works to build the power and leadership skills of women and girls, as well as their safety, security and financial independence.
Your contribution will help challenge gender inequality and ensure these women and girls get the tools they need to build a brighter future.
There are many creative and fun ways in which you can fundraise. To help get you started we have created an Online Fundraising Resource Hub containing an A-Z guide of fundraising ideas, “how to” guides for certain events and sample press releases and corporate sponsorship letters. Upon registration you will be given the password to access. You will also have regular support from the Soulful Concepts team, who will help you develop a fundraising plan tailored to your network. In addition you will also be supported by indigo foundation.
