Trip at a glance

Join Seeing Eye Dogs on the journey of a lifetime as you trek the iconic Larapinta Trail, while making a life-changing difference to Australians who are blind or have low vision.

Located in Australia’s Red Centre, on this seven-day adventure, you’ll trek sections of the iconic Larapinta Trail, one of the most popular wilderness walks in Australia. Following the red rock slopes of the West MacDonnell Ranges, you’ll explore the breathtaking landscapes that make this world-renowned trek a National Geographic favourite.

From awe-inspiring gorges and expansive plains to towering mountains and snaking rivers, you’ll trek scenic paths to the heart of the Red Centre and experience a connection to Country unattainable anywhere else in Australia.

To ensure you experience the inimitable majesty and rich history of the Red Centre, we’ve curated a quintessentially Outback adventure that takes in the best sections along the trail.

By day, you’ll explore significant sights, including the limestone hills of the Finke River, the unique natural amphitheatre that is Ormiston Pound and climb to the summit of Mount Sonder (1,380m) for incredible, panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, plains, valleys and salt lakes below. At night, you’ll retreat to a bush camp and spend your evenings sitting around a campfire with like-minded adventurers before falling asleep in traditional swags under a star-filled sky.

Most significantly, by participating in Seeing Eye Dogs Outback Adventure, you’ll raise vital funds for Vision Australia to help care for and train pups to become Seeing Eye Dogs and make a big difference to Australians who are blind or have low vision.

A truly soulful experience, you will reminisce on this once-in-a-lifetime adventure for years to come.

Give back

On the Seeing Eye Dogs Outback Adventure you will have the exciting opportunity to participate in a physically challenging hike in our own beautiful backyard, while fundraising in support of people who are blind or have low vision to help them achieve the possibilities they choose in life.

For a person living with blindness or low vision, feeling isolated from others around you can be a daily part of life, this does not need to be the case. Seeing Eye Dogs are an essential part of assisting individuals, apart from being a constant companion, they provide much needed guidance and independence for people who would otherwise be unable to undertake day-to-day activities.

Everyone who participates in Seeing Eye Dogs Outback Adventure will be raising a minimum of $3,000. These funds will be pooled together with other participants’ to help breed, care for and train pups to become Seeing Eye Dogs and make a big difference to Australians who are blind or have low vision. Our breeding program welcomes around 200 puppies per annum, that’s a lot of hungry mouths to feed, to find volunteer carers for and to train in any given year. Your financial support is therefore critical.

Here’s how your fundraising can make a difference:

$30 can help fund the cost of equipment like the special harnesses and leads needed for a Seeing Eye Dog

$50 will keep Seeing Eye Dogs that are in training happy and healthy with vaccinations with regular vet check-ups

$100 can support essential puppy social training activities like learning to ride public transport

$480 can help pay for 8 intensive training sessions (it takes around 500 hours to train a puppy all the way to graduation)

$500 can help pay for a week’s in-house training for a blind person with their new Seeing Eye Dog
