      Trip at a glance

Join us on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure with Lou Grossfeldt, renowned orangutan expert, primatologist, and author from Borneo Orangutan Survival Australia, as we take on the Wharf to Wharf challenge to raise funds and awareness for orangutan conservation and habitat restoration in Borneo.

Experience the rugged coastal wilderness of Australia's Sapphire Coast, a hidden gem on the NSW Far South Coast. This region is a gateway to enchanting coastal forests, sparkling estuaries, and secluded beaches. Discover historic wharfs, untouched coastlines, and ancient geological formations while trekking with a small group of like-minded individuals, guided by local experts. Stay in comfortable accommodations and enjoy freshly prepared meals featuring local seasonal produce.

Your adventure begins in the seaside community of Tathra, where you'll visit the picturesque, historic Tathra Wharf and the magnificent surroundings of Bournda and Mimosa National Parks. Watch sea eagles soar above crystalline waters and keep an eye out for migrating humpback whales. Over three days, you’ll undertake the Wharf to Wharf adventure, trekking approximately 42 km from Tathra Wharf to Merimbula Wharf. Along the way, you’ll cross beaches, lagoons, and forests, experiencing the diverse beauty of the Sapphire Coast.

This is your opportunity to travel with purpose, as your fundraising will rescue orangutans from harm caused by the wildlife trade and human-orangutan conflict. It supports their care, including food, veterinary services, and sanctuary expenses, as well as rehabilitation and release back into the wild, and habitat restoration and protection.

You'll walk away with unforgettable memories, new friendships, and the knowledge that you've made a difference in the lives of orangutans and their habitat.

      Give back

Borneo Orangutan Survival (BOS) Australia is a non-profit organisation committed to the conservation of orangutans and their habitat in Borneo. Their organisation operates under the principle that the survival of the orangutan species is dependent on the conservation of their natural habitat.

They work towards this goal through a variety of initiatives, including rescuing orangutans from harm caused by the wildlife trade and human-orangutan conflict, supporting the care of orangutans and sun bears through buying food, veterinary expenses, enclosures, sanctuary care, rehabilitating and releasing orangutans to live back in the wild, and providing habitat restoration and protection to ensure orangutans have a safe place to call home.

BOS Australia operates two orangutan rehabilitation centres in Borneo, where rescued orangutans receive care, medical attention, and rehabilitation before being released back into their natural habitat. In addition to orangutans, BOS Australia also provides care and rehabilitation for other wildlife, including sun bears.

By joining this adventure, you can help support orangutans like Bumi and contribute to the protection of one of our planet's most endangered species and their natural habitat.

Together, we can make a difference and ensure a future for orangutans and their forest homes.

Here’s how your fundraising can make a difference:

      • $30 can help supply one month of food for an orangutan, to help them grow strong and healthy for future release.
      • $55 can help provide enrichment materials to help orangutans learn essential survival skills.
      • $90 can help fund critical veterinary care for an orangutan that’s been orphaned or injured.
      • $135 can help rescue an orphaned baby orangutan and bring them safely to our sanctuaries for rehabilitation.
