      Trip at a glance

Immerse yourself in the stunning beauty of Yuin Country on an unforgettable cultural expedition!

On this incredible curated three-day journey, you’ll experience the breathtaking highlights of NSW’s South Coast. From ticking off two of the most scenic hikes through Morton National Park, to celebrating the resilience and strength of the Yuin Nation when you meet respected Elders for a Welcome to Country, cultural discussions and hands-on workshops.

Setting off early, climb through the magnificent wilderness of Balgaan (Pigeon House Mountain) along a walking track surrounded by ancient sandstone formations, heathland and forest. Witness sunrise while trekking and taking in spectacular panoramic views over the rugged cliffs and gorges, with the coastline stretching around you from Point Perpendicular in the north to Gulaga in the south.

      Give back

This journey will see you travel with a purpose, donating to support Treading Lightly, a local grassroots environmental organisation that brings people together to build resilient communities and make positive, long-lasting change towards a sustainable future.

We pay our respects to the Traditional Owners of the lands where this trek takes place as well as across the lands we travel through. We also acknowledge our Elders past, present and emerging and honour the continuation of cultural, spiritual and educational practices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander peoples. We acknowledge the historical truth that colonisation has led to the ongoing exclusion of our First Nations people from modern Australia.

We hope through our Trek Yuin Country adventures travellers can come away with an informed and enhanced understanding of First Nations peoples history and culture.

      Itinerary

      Day 1: Welcome to Mollymook
Welcome to Ulladulla! You’ll local guide will meet you at the hotel reception at 1pm, from there you will travel a short distance for a welcome briefing and attend a Welcome to Country to pay respect to the past, present and future Traditional Custodians of the land, the Yuin people, and their connections to land and community.

Your afternoon will be spent with Yuin Elder, Uncle Dean Kelly, participating in a hands-on learning experience that focuses on Aboriginal tools and resources, sharing information about Aboriginal cultures, history, the environment, animals, plants, shelter, tools, weapons and sustainability.

In the evening, we’ll come together for our first team dinner and get to know each other ahead of our first day of trekking.

      Accommodation: Motel Molly

      Meals: D

Day 2: Cultural Discussions and Florence Head Trek
This morning we’ll rise early and meet Uncle Dean for a sunrise ceremony on the beach, before returning to our hotel for breakfast.

After breakfast, we’ll engage with an inspiring woman for a very open and honest discussion about Aboriginal perspectives of invasion, frontier wars, loss of land, reserves and missions and the stolen generations.

This conversation will take place over a hands-on traditional weaving class in which we’ll create bracelets, bookmarks, necklaces or rope using raffia, feathers and beads.

After lunch you’ll have time to relax before we venture out to Florence Head walking trail. This easy walk features a variety of vegetation types, including mallee gum trees, heath plants and sedges. Keep your eyes out along the way for local kangaroos, wallabies and an array of bird life, such as honeyeaters, wrens and colourful parrots.

Once we arrive at Florence Head lookout, we’ll have an early dinner and cook up while taking in the incredible views of Pigeon House Mountain.

Day 3: Balgaan (Pigeon House Mountain) – Farewell
Today we again rise early and make our way to the top of Balgaan! The walk is quite steep in parts, but the incredible views make it all worthwhile.

This is one of the best walks in Morton National Park and the South Coast. We’ll hike through forest, heathland and age-old sandstone before reaching a series of ladders that lead to the summit and the amazing views of the surrounding national park and pristine coastline.

With ample time to take in the captivating sight of cliffs and gorges within the Budawang wilderness, all carved by the Clyde River, we might even be able to see as far as Jervis Bay and Bermagui.

After a well-earned morning tea at the summit, we’ll make our way back and transfer to our accommodation where the tour ends.
