CAN YOU IMAGINE A WORLD WITHOUT COFFEE?
We don’t know about you, but the idea of living in a world without coffee is unimaginable. The bad news? It could soon be a reality due to the effects of climate change and market instability, which is affecting the economic and environmental sustainability of coffee. The good news? There is something you can do about it.
Soulful Concepts is the first Australian company to join the Sustainable Coffee Challenge, which aims to make coffee the world’s first sustainable agricultural product. The challenge works by connecting and educating coffee consumers and producers on the effects climate change has on coffee sustainability. As coffee lovers (and general lovers of sustainable solutions), we recognise it’s more important than ever to find immediate sustainable and ethical solutions for coffee production. It’s the key to meeting the future demands for coffee and preserving global coffee growing cultures. We for one do not want to cut back on our coffee habits, so finding sustainable solutions are the only way forward!
Did you know that the livelihood of 25 million farmers depends on the production of coffee? Yet climate change and market instability has greatly lowered prices, ageing coffee trees are less productive, and the upcoming generation of coffee farmers are seeking economic alternatives for their income. The current outlook is bleak, but there’s time to save the future of coffee, and it all starts with education.
Our unique Sustainable Coffee Tours concept connects coffee lovers with local coffee growers and producers. Part community immersion, part cultural excursion and part environmental endeavour, our insightful tours peak behind the scenes to soak up what really goes into a good cup of coffee. These educational travel experiences collect valuable data and insights that, in partnership with organisations such as SupplyShift, creates transparency and improves supply chain management across the industry.
When you take part in a Soulful Concepts’ Sustainable Coffee Tour, a direct donation goes to local coffee farming groups, which benefits social projects that help the communities and environments behind the farms. You’ll also learn about what goes into the day to day operations of a coffee farm, which enables a better understanding of production practice and actively supports coffee farmers in creating sustainable productivity, harvesting practices and livelihoods. Your unique travel experience helps fund the process of making coffee the world’s first sustainable agricultural product.
Having just launched In 2017, we are offering you the opportunity to join one of our incredible Sustainable Coffee Tours. Sustainable Coffee Connections in Guatemala, taking you into the heart of Guatemala, where you’ll observe the unique regional growing, harvesting, and roasting processes of local coffee farmers while you taste a range of delicious coffee varieties. Or you can experience our Connecting to the Coffee Heartlands of Sulawesi tour, where you will learn about everyday sustainability, ethical harvesting and the charming local farming communities in the coffee heartlands of Sulawesi, Indonesia. Bear-witness to the crop-to-cup process, whilst gaining a more in depth appreciation of the labour and love that goes into making each and every cup.
Our excitement doesn’t stop there, we’re proud to be partnered with the team at Art of Espresso, an Australian roaster and barista training school who are committed to supporting the organic direct farm trade ethical and sustainable business practices. They will be inviting selected suppliers on a Sustainable Coffee Tour in the Motherland of India in early 2018.
